Mrs. Janet C. Mahley

Janet C. Mahley (nee Green) age 76 years of Clarksboro died Saturday August 10, 2019 in her home. Mrs. Mahley was born in Swedesboro, raised in Billingsport and was a 1960 graduate of Paulsboro High School. She played field hockey and basketball while at P.H.S. as well as playing softball for the Heritage’s Dairy Maids and field hockey for the West Jersey League. Mrs. Mahley was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Clarksboro where she made the crab cakes for their annual dinners for many years and she was a member of the Episcopal Church Women’s Group. Mrs. Mahley was an avid tennis player and enjoyed playing at Riverwinds, was a member of the Buck Ridge Hiking and Ski Club, and was a member-at-large of the Strathmere Improvement Association. She enjoyed fishing, crabbing, clamming and other outdoor sports-always happiest being outside, usually with a camera in hand. Perhaps you heard she caught a 24-1/2” flounder a few summers ago? Janet also hit a homerun during a softball tournament at Veterans’ Stadium and was lucky at cards, dominoes, board games and slot machines. Her natural gift of athleticism, coupled with a competitive streak, were an unbeatable combo. Her pound cake, “Mom’s” potato salad and crab balls were party staples, made with pride and love. She was generous with her time and her bay home, teaching countless kids to fish, decorating for the annual Nightmare in Strathmere, and sharing her kayaks, deck, dock and innertubes so everyone could enjoy the wonders of the bay. She was upbeat, even in trying times, and never seemed to have a bad day. However, it was the bond she built with her son, Greg, that brought Janet her greatest happiness and pride. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Donald S. Mahley of Clarksboro; her son, Gregory R. Mahley of West Deptford; her sister, Dorothy Jones of Cortez, Colorado; her brothers, Thomas C. and Shirley Green of The Villages, Florida, Robert E. and Karen Green of Sicklerville; her sister in law, Joni Green of Denver, Colorado and several dear nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mahley was predeceased by her brother, Charles F. Green Jr. The Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM Wednesday August 14, 2019 in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Kings Hwy., Clarksboro. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Wednesday morning after 10 AM until service time. Interment Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro. Arrangements by McBride – Foley Funeral Home, Paulsboro.
