Mrs. Althene J. Miller

Althene Miller (nee Nelson) age 100 years of Paulsboro, wife of the late Earl F. Miller for 68 years passed away on Friday February 21, 2025 with her family by her side at Shady Lane Home where she resided for the past year. Althene was born in Woodbury to the late Clarence H. Sr. and Callie Nelson. She attended Woodbury High School and later Camden Vocational School for electronics. She was employed at Socony Vacuum Oil Co. in Paulsboro during World War II, and later in electronics assembly for many years at Forway Industries, Delaware Valley Armament and Eastman Sound. She was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary, a former member of the George D. Patton VFW Post Auxiliary and an active member of the Anthony T. Calista VFW Post 5579 Auxiliary in Gibbstown. Althene was a long time member of the Paulsboro Fire Company Auxiliary and was a Cub Scout den mother when her sons were young. She was also a member of the Paulsboro Senior Citizens Club and enjoyed their trips to the Atlantic City casinos where her game of choice was the slots. Althene was an avid bowler for many years and participated in many leagues. She and her husband Earl enjoyed traveling throughout the states, the family Bermuda cruise, in a suite, and travel to Greece, the Netherlands and Germany, where they got to visit the Miller family homestead in Bottendorf. Althene was also a long time member of Taylor Memorial Baptist Church in Paulsboro and attended St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Paulsboro when Taylor Church closed. She was passionate about her hometown of Paulsboro! She is survived by her twin sons, Raymond R. (Patricia) Miller of Clarksboro, Dennis D. (Juanita) Miller of Estell Manor; her grandchildren, Sandi Miller Morina, Col. Brian (Lorna) Miller, USMC and Amanda Miller; 8 great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Earl Miller; her grandson, David Miller; her parents; her sister, Lois Kiger and her brothers, Clarence Nelson Jr. USN (Ret.) and Edward Nelson USN (Ret). A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM Friday March 7, 2025 in the McBride – Foley Funeral Home, 228 W. Broad St., Paulsboro. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Friday morning after 10 AM until service time. Inurnment Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro.
