Bernard Davis Jr.

Bernard J. “Bernie” “Nard” Davis Jr. age 87 years of Paulsboro died Tuesday January 11, 2011 in his home surrounded by his family. Mr. Davis was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Bernard J. Davis Sr. and the late Marie V. (Wood) Davis. He was the oldest of four children. He was raised in Gibbstown and graduated from Paulsboro High School and he attended Auburn, Alabama University. Bernie was a World War II Navy Veteran assigned to the U.S.S. Hissem as radio man first class and honorably discharged. He was a member of the George D. Patton V.F.W. Post #678, Paulsboro. Bernie was awarded many medals including the European Theatre Ribbon with one star. He continued his interest in communications by being an active member of the American Radio League – Amateur Radio Operator with the call letters W2IFE. He retired from E.I. DuPont after 30 years of service. He then joined Taylor Instrument Corporation and traveled throughout the world as a senior installation technician. Bernie was active in the community by being a volunteer firemen with Billingsport Volunteer Fire Company and was a coach in the Paulsboro Little League Association. He was assistant Boy Scout leader with Paulsboro Troop #24 and a certified issuer of the radio merit badge. Bernie was a loving and devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather. His family always came first in his heart and in his mind. He was a conservative person and focused on his family. He was predeceased by his wife, Ethel “Penny” Davis in 2009. He is survived by his daughter, Donna and Lawrence Barber, his sons, Bernard “Barney” Davis, Thomas and Leona Davis; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren and his brother, James Davis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Saturday January 15, 2011 in St. Clare of Assisi Parish, St. John’s Church, 7th and Beacon Aves., Paulsboro. Friends may call Saturday morning after 9:30 AM in the church. Interment Gloucester County Veterans Cemetery, Williamstown. Arrangements by McBride – Foley Funeral Home, Paulsboro.
