Mr. Corby Hezzie Deese Sr.

Corby Hezzie Deese Sr. age 92 years of Paulsboro passed away at home on Tuesday September 3, 2024. He was born on June 12, 1932 and raised in Pembroke, North Carolina in Robeson County. He was a PROUD Lumbee Indian. On August 18, 1951 he joined the U.S. Navy; serving in the Korean War aboard the USS Nicolas DDE449. He married the love of his life, Thera Mae Locklear, on January 1, 1956 in Dillon, South Carolina. In 1959 he moved his family to New Jersey and he worked as an electrician for Local 439. Corby was a past commander of the George D. Patton V.F.W. Post in Paulsboro for many years and a member of the Gloucester County Stag Club where he was their head cook. He and his wife enjoyed trips to the casinos in Atlantic City, Delaware and Pennsylvania. Corby loved Cowtown and was there every Tuesday and Saturday to spend time with his dear friends, Steve and Sue and many others. Later in life he enjoyed painting long needle pine cones from North Carolina. He is survived by his children, Wayne Deese of Mantua, Cynthia and Greg Massari of Carneys Point, Corby Deese Jr. and Tammy O’Leary of Logan Township, Beverly of Covington, Georgia, Linda Jude of Apple Grove, West Virginia; his grandchildren, Chenoa(Chris) Gregory Angelo, Ryan (Emily), Greggory, Joseph, Brian, Larry (Amanda), David; his great grandchildren, Christopher, Madison, Connor, Noah, Jonah, Lily, Ivy, Audra, LJ, Liam, Devin, Kevin, Hope, Eli, Kendrick, Kadence, Kylie, Kaydance, Noah and Kenley; his great great granddaughter, Payton; his sister in law, Sue Deese of Pembroke, North Carolina; his brother in law, Wardell and Star Locklear of Hackett, Arkansas and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Thera Mae Deese on May 20, 2024 after 68 years of marriage; his parents, Aggie and Hezzie Deese, his brothers, Belton(Irene), Velton(Sally), Lauton(Tillie) and David; his sister, Zarah Lowry and his grandson, Kevin. Funeral Services will be private with inurnment in Saint Annah Cemetery in Pembroke, North Carolina. Arrangements by McBride – Foley Funeral Home.
