Mrs. Elaine W. Hargraves

Elaine W. Hargraves (nee Wilson) age 91 years of Gibbstown died on March 30, 2024 in her home surrounded by her family. Elaine was born in Swedesboro and raised in Paulsboro. She was a 1950 graduate of Paulsboro High School where she lettered in basketball. Elaine began her lengthy career at Mobil Oil Corporation in the secretarial pool and at her retirement she was Executive Assistant to Mobil’s general manager at the strategic research center. In 1957 Elaine married Alfred “Al” Hargraves and soon thereafter started a family. They lived in Pitman, Spring Valley, IL, Deer Park, TX and Gonzales, LA before making their forever home in Gibbstown. Elaine was an active member of Clonmell United Methodist Church since 1959. She served on the planning board for Greenwich Township and was a member of the Red Horsemen’s Club. She enjoyed volunteering at church, lunching with the great friends she made at Mobil, summers in Buttonwood Beach, MD and Cape May. Elaine enjoyed traveling whenever possible and especially enjoyed retirement at her unique home on the Delaware Bay in the Villas. Elaine was known for being an excellent cook and she could create fabulous dishes, especially her crab cakes and soups. She is also known for her sense of wanderlust, traveling extensively across the globe, her love of reading and her enjoyment of a hot cup of tea. Mom was of great help to each of her children as they became parents. Elaine was present after the births and homecomings of all her grandchildren, helping with baby care, cooking, laundry, and more as she spent several weeks of special bonding time with each of her nine grandchildren. Mom/G held deep relationships with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her children, beloved daughters, Beth Elaine Moore (Matt) of Lower Alloways Creek, NJ, Lisa Ann Harshman (Vern) of Pennsville; her beloved sons, Scott Robert Hargraves (Dawn) of New Salem, PA, David Alfred Hargraves (Jennifer) of North Huntington, PA; 11 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; her sister, Thelma Wilson of Thorofare and many loving nieces and nephews. Elaine was predeceased by her husband, Alfred, as well as his siblings, Grace (Horace), Winfield, Eva (J. Leonard), and her brothers, Kenneth (June) Wilson, Mervin (Mae) Wilson as well as many good friends. The Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM Saturday April 6, 2024 in Clonmell Methodist Church, 516 W. Broad St., Gibbstown. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Saturday morning after 9:30 AM until service time in the church. Inurnment private. Arrangements by McBride – Foley Funeral Home, Paulsboro.
