Elizabeth "Betty" Mattson

Elizabeth Williams Mattson, age 83, passed from this life on Wednesday February 16, 2011. She was Betty to her friends; she was everything to her family. A life long resident of Paulsboro, graduating from PHS in 1944, Betty was fond of her memories of working as cafeteria manager at Paulsboro High School, retiring in 1991. As a young woman, during World War II, she was employed at DOD/ Carneys Point. Betty enjoyed reading and visiting historical sites. She was a frequent patron at the Country House Restaurant. She particularly enjoyed sharing lunch with her many retired friends of PHS. Betty was predeceased by her husband, Robert A. Mattson inBetty She was the daughter of John “Biz” Williams and Clara Lippincott. She dearly missed her youngest daughter, Arlene Angelucci; sister Connie Munyon, and beloved brothers in law, Granville Munyon and Joseph Taylor. She was a dedicated, loving and supportive mother to daughters Claudia Mattson of Deptford, Cyndy Mattson Oliver of Milford, DE and Kim Mattson of Paulsboro, sons in law Karl Oliver and Noel Angelucci. Special joys in “Nannies” life were her grandchildren, Matthew Oliver, Joseph Angelucci, Jared Mattson and Beth Angelucci. Also survived by sisters, Catherine Taylor of GA, Rose (George) Blasetto of Paulsboro, Mary (Phil) Fillius of National Park, and brothers Leonardo (Anita) Vasta Jr. of Paulsboro and Alfio (Stephanie) Vasta of Blackwood. She was everyone’s favorite “Aunt Bett” to thirteen nieces and nephews; seventeen great nieces and nephews. She was blessed with life – long friends Theresa Roche and Barbara Statham. Generations of children, her siblings, friends and neighbors gravitated to Betty’s table where there was plenty of reminiscing, laughter, affection and commotion. Betty’s home has been everyone’s “safe place to fall”. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to Holy Redeemer Home Care and Hospice for their compassionate care and support. We will always have a special place in our hearts for Chaplain Debbie Ganci, M.Div. and Vance Maloney, RN. Visitation is scheduled at McBride – Foley Funeral Home, 228 W. Broad St., Paulsboro commencing at 1PM Sunday February 20, 2011. A life celebration will be observed at 2:30 PM Sunday. Interment will be private. Memories can be shared at www.mcbridefoleyfh.com.
