Frank Franz

Frank F. Franz age 59 years of Paulsboro died Thursday, February 4, 2010 in his home. Frank was the son of the late Frank N. Franz and Florence Workman Brennan. He was a member of the first graduating class from Kingsway High School in 1968. In 1968, the same year he moved to Paulsboro, he was recognized for saving a boy from drowning in the sandwash in Mt. Royal. In August 1970 he married Joan McCarthy Franz who survives him. At the age of ten he began working with his father and grandfather washing parts and sweeping floors in the family garage. When his father died in 1995, he and his brother Barry took over the family business where he worked with Barry and his son Mike until his death. Frank began his racing career in 1973 racing sportsman cars at Bridgeport Speedway until 1983. While an owner of sportsman cars, he won the track championship in 1984. Later, as owner of modified race cars, he won two track championships. In recent years, his son drove the #12 modified car. Frank loved to boat, go to races, ride his Harley and hang in the garage with his friends. In January 2010 he was awarded the “Dedication to Bridgeport Speedway Award”. Frank was also a member of the Paulsboro Sportsman Club and at one time was a volunteer fireman in Paulsboro. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Joan Franz (nee McCarthy); his daughter Shelley Franz of Clarksboro; his son Mike and Beth Franz of National Park; his grandsons, Avery and Logan; his brother, Barry Franz of Paulsboro; his dog, Bud; his favorite aunt, Agnes Phillip (Franz) and his loving mother in law, Florence McCarthy; and his in laws, Michael and Bernice McCarthy, Dennis and Carole McCarthy, Mark and Cindy McCarthy, Kevin and Marlene McCarthy, Edward and Deanna McCarthy, Mary and John Magdin, Matthew and Phyliss McCarthy, Megan and Pat Adams; 8 nieces; 8 nephews; 6 great nephews and 2 great nieces. The Funeral Service will be held at 8 PM Monday February 8, 2010 in the McBride - Foley Funeral Home, 228 W. Broad St., Paulsboro. Friends may call from 6 to 9 PM in the funeral home.
