Lewis Heilman Sr.

Lewis S. Heilman Sr. age 87 years of Bridgeport died Friday February 8, 2008 in the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Heilman was born in Woodbury and lived in Bridgeport most of his life. He enjoyed spending winters in the Florida Keys and later in Deland, Florida. Mr. Heilman was the first Chief of Police for Logan Township and he also worked as a Supervisor for DuPont Repauno Works, Gibbstown for over thirty years. He was the oldest living member of the Logan Township Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Heilman was a member of the Paulsboro – Swedesboro Masonic Lodge #157 F. & A.M.; the Excelsior Consistory, Collingswood; and active member of the Salem Sportsmen’s Club and the DuPont Country Club, Wilmington, Delaware. Mr. Heilman was also a proud member of the N.R.A. and the Moose Lodge in Daytona Beach, Florida. He enjoyed annual trips for 49 years to Maine with colleagues and Lew Jr., but most of all he treasured spending time with family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Evelyn Heilman (nee Davis) of Bridgeport; his children, Dianne Whitaker of Repaupo, Lewis Jr. and Babbette Heilman of Penns Grove and William and Linda Heilman of Bridgeport; his grandchildren, Barbara and Steve Ridinger, Dee and Josh Hackett, Jimmy Leonard Jr., Jennifer and Mike Flatley, Christina Heilman and her fiancé Gary Kille, Jeff and Annie Whitaker, Kent Whitaker, Dan and Jennie Whitaker and Mark Whitaker; 14 great grandchildren and his sister, Dorothy Folker of Bridgeport. His sister, Edna Bates, his brother Walter Heilman and his son in law, Karl Whitaker, predeceased Mr. Heilman. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday February 13, 2008 in the McBride - Foley Funeral Home, 228 West Broad Street, Paulsboro. Relatives and Friends may call Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 PM and Wednesday morning after 9:30 AM until service time in the funeral home. The Paulsboro – Swedesboro Masonic Lodge will conduct services at 7:30 PM Tuesday. Internment Bridgeport Cemetery, Bridgeport.
