Mrs Helen M. Barrett

February 24, 1934 - February 16, 2014

Helen M. Barrett, 79, of Gibbstown passed away Sunday, Feb. 16th, at Inspira Hospital in Woodbury surrounded by loved ones. She was a long time resident of Gibbstown who touched the lives of many children during her more than 30 years as a teacher at the Broad Street School. She valued education and loved watching children grow and learn. Helen was a member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Woodbury, GCREA, NJREA, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Beta Chapter, Gibbstown Historical Society, and a trustee at the Repauno Day Care Center. More than anything Helen enjoyed being surrounded by her family. Holiday dinners and family celebrations were held at her home where traditions were carried out and memories made. Family and friends were very important to her. Her deep faith and her love of God always helped her get through difficult times. She is survived by her daughter, Diane and Tim Avsec of Woolwich Township; her grandchildren, Matthew and Daniel Avsec; her brother, John and Sandy Simek of Quincy, PA; her sisters, Theresa Lambertson of Gibbstown and Doreen Waters of West Deptford. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, February 22, 2014 in the McBride - Foley Funeral Home, 228 West Broad Street, Paulsboro. Friends may call Friday evening from 7 to 9 PM and Saturday morning after 9:30 AM until service time in the funeral home. Interment Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro.
