Lawrence J. Barber Sr. “Larry”, 73, a lifelong resident of Paulsboro, died peacefully on March 4, 2015 surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of Donna (Nee Davis); devoted father of Eileen (Joseph) McNally and Lawrence Jr. (fiance Tami); loving grandfather of Nicolette and Jamison McNally; dear brother to Gene (Kathy) Barber; caring uncle to several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Anthony and Mary (nee Giampaolo) Barber and brother Anthony “Butch” Barber. Larry was a 1958 graduate of Paulsboro High School, where he excelled in wrestling and football. He retired from E.I. DuPont in Gibbstown, NJ after forty years of service. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing, long walks with his buddies, but golf was his real pleasure with his son and friends. Especially when he had a hole in one witnessed by many and playing the exclusive private Pine Valley Golf Club. He loved sports. Larry coached Paulsboro Little League Baseball teams in the seventies and eighties, winning many championships. Larry liked going to Las Vegas and family trips to Florida every year. He loved going to his grandchildren’s activities such as baseball, football games, dance recitals and cheerleading competitions. He was also a member of St. Michael’s Mutual Club in Gibbstown for over fifty years. Everyone knows or has a “guy”. Larry was “THE Guy” for many. He knew how to do everything – electric, plumbing, heating, fixing cars, concrete work – you name it, he could do it. He was a very generous person who gave much to help others. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Tuesday March 10, 2015 in St. Clare of Assisi Parish, St. John’s Church, 7th and Beacon Aves., Paulsboro. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Tuesday morning from 9 to 11 AM in the church until Mass time. Interment Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro.
