Leandro “Leo” Malara age 84 years of Gibbstown died Saturday May 2, 2015 in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Camden surrounded by his family. He was born and raised in Reggio Calabria, Italy and served in the Italian Army. Leo met his soulmate, Giovanna in Italy and after they married they moved to Philadelphia. In 1971 they moved to Paulsboro and later to Gibbstown in 1976. He retired as head electrician after 25 years of service with Crown Cork and Seal, Philadelphia. Leo was a member of St. Clare of Assisi Parish, St. Michael’s Church, Gibbstown and the Gibbstown, Paulsboro and Mantua Senior Citizens Clubs. He enjoyed gardening, yard sales and keeping track of things. He is survived by his daughters, Carmelina and Guieseppe Geria, Concetta Malara and Benjamin Saldonis, Filomena Saldonis, all of Gibbstown; his grandchildren, Leandro, Christina, Jessica, Britanie, Cassandra, Gabriella, Mariah, Adrianna, Christopher, Joseph IV and Dawson; his great grandchildren, Dominic, Izabella, Gianni, Giovanna, Mattalyn, Melina and one on the way and his sister, Catarina DiStefano of Torino, Italy. Leandro was predeceased by his beloved wife, Giovanna Malara, his parents, and his son in law, Joseph Michael Saldonis III. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Friday May 8, 2015 in St. Michael’s Church, 313 Memorial Avenue, Gibbstown. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Friday morning from 9:30 to 11 AM in the church. Arrangements by McBride – Foley Funeral Home, Paulsboro.
