Mr. Thomas DeRemigio
May 27, 1942 - April 24, 2022
Thomas DeRemigio, 79, died on April 24, 2022 surrounded by his loving family in the home he built for them in Gibbstown. He was predeceased by his parents Jesse S. DeRemigio and Dorothy M. DeRemigio (nee Dorothy M. McCarthy) as well as two brothers, Raymond DeRemigio (Eileen Andrews) and Jesse DeRemigio (aka Michael Derem). Born and raised in the Woodbury area, he attended Woodbury High School and St. Patrick’s grade school before becoming a Gibbstown resident 58 years ago. Known as Tom or Tommy D, he worked out of Ironworkers Local 399 before retiring after 44 years. During his career as an ironworker, he served for 14 years on the Ironworkers Executive Board and was elected twice to represent Local 399 at the Ironworkers International Annual Meeting and Convention. He was married for 60 years to the love of his life, Lynne (Applegate) DeRemigio and was father to three children, Dr. David DeRemigio (George Hausser), Lauren Ballas (Dennis), and Sandra Pitts (Jerry). He was proud of his four grandchildren, Thomas Ballas, Nicholas Pitts (Kaitlyn Turi), Emily Pitts (Scott Ritter), Joseph Ballas, and Delaney Pitts, his great granddaughter. Tom was well travelled, having taken his family across the United States in 1976 in celebration of the US Bicentennial. He also visited Alaska and Hawaii multiple times. He traveled to Australia and Europe but, in honor of his heritage, his favorite trip was back to his family’s roots in Giulianova, a beautiful region of Abruzzo, Italy. Tom always had a great sense of humor and had something to say to fit every occasion. From Spring through Fall, he could be seen working on his beautifully landscaped lawn. He will be missed by all who knew him. Services will be private. It is anticipated that a celebration of life and remembrance will be held in the summer. Arrangements by McBride – Foley Funeral Home, Paulsboro. Memories can be shared at www.mcbridefoleyfh.com.
