Mr. Vernon M. Dawson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Vernon M. Dawson, age 83 years of Mickleton passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday February 16th, 2022. Vernon was born on November 12th 1938 in Monroeville, New Jersey. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1956 and served until 1962 where he was widely recognized for his service in the military. He graduated from Glassboro State College in 1971. He had many successful career paths but his most prideful was Executive Vice President at H & T, Inc. which he began in 1972 and retired in 2000. Vernon contributed to many civic activities, including serving on the East Greenwich Board of Education, the East Greenwich Ambulance Association, the Mt. Royal Fire Company, and the Sons of Italy-Carmel S Morina Lodge 2580. Vernon was an avid sportsman: from playing in a championship softball team while in the military, and continuing playing softball in various leagues, playing volleyball, coaching basketball and softball, and serving on the board of trustees for local football and wrestling programs. Vernon spent many years at the Paulsboro wrestling matches where he seldom missed a match, as well as volunteering his time in the development of the wrestling building. He was a humble and generous man who believed that if one small act benefited one child, it was worth his time and resources. He was devoted to his faith: attending church on Sundays, singing in the choir, and helping his church family every way he could. Spending time with his “lunch bunch” was something that he looked forward to everyday. Vernon believed that his wealth was his family. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and selflessness; always there to listen and offer advice. His pearls of wisdom are something that will be treasured by all who knew him. He was the epitome of a gentleman. He is survived by his wife, Caterina Dawson (née Dattola); his children, Anthony Dawson, Natino Dawson (Melissa), Sebastian Dawson (Morgan), Kathy Dawson (Paul), Karen Ledden née Dawson (Steve); 4 grandchildren, Carlo Dawson, Natino Dawson, Joshua Ledden (Alexandra), and Matthew Ledden; one great-granddaughter, Aubree Lorraine Ledden; and one brother, William Dawson (Debbie). Survived by brother-in-laws, Dan Chila (Cristina), Domenic Romeo (Angela), Frank Pellicano (Maria) and many cherished nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Susan Dawson. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday in Richwood United Methodist Church, 104 Richwood Rd., Richwood. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 PM in the McBride – Foley Funeral Home, 228 W. Broad St., Paulsboro and Wednesday morning after 9:30 AM in the church until service time. Interment Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro.
