Albert Earnhart

On November 14, 2009, our dear father Albert F. “Tex” Earnhart passed away peacefully at the Pitman Manor nursing home. He was born to William D. and Victoria Salsman Earnhart on October 25, 1917 in Comanche, Oklahoma. Answering the call to service during WWII, Al served with the Eighth Air Force in England and moved to New Jersey after meeting his future wife while on leave. He was hired by Mobil Oil in Paulsboro in Dec.’45 and retired thirty four years later in 1979. Tex was a well thought of friend and co-worker while at Mobil and served several terms as president of the men’s’ Pegasus and Red Horsemen’s’ clubs. An avid bowler, golfer and softball player, he seemed most proud of his wife bowling without him and winning the first Woodbury Times mixed bowling tournament in 1966. He taught his three sons the value of hard work, and honesty, a lesson never lost on them. When his wife Ethel Mae passed away in 2003, not being one to skip a beat, he made his new home at Pitman Manor where he was very content until the end. He was probably most known there for the regular, if not daily impromptu organ recitals he performed. Al is survived by three sons, Alan F. of Cape Elizabeth, ME, his wife Allison and children Jeffrey, of Haddonfield, N.J., Allison Stiles and Christopher Root of Maine; David W. of Monroeville, N.J., his wife Rene and children Marissa and Derek, and son Paul H. of Gibbstown, N.J., and six great-grandchildren. Al also leaves behind sisters Effie Mae and Nellie Ruth of Gainesville and Whitesboro, TX., dozens of Texas nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and grand nephews as well as many California relatives. The Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM Wednesday November 18, 2009 in the McBride - Foley Funeral Home, 228 West Broad Street, Paulsboro. Friends may call Wednesday morning after 9:30 AM until service time. Interment Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro, NJ. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to the Fellowship Fund of Pitman manor, 535 N. Oak Ave., Pitman, NJ 08071. His family would like to greatly thank Pitman Manor and its wonderfully dedicated staff for making Al’s last six years and more particularly his last few weeks there as happy and comfortable as the circumstances would allow.
