Mr. Archie D. Roemmich

Archie D. Roemmich, age 90 years of Paulsboro answered the Lord’s call and went home to be with the Lord on Saturday January 17, 2026 in Inspira Hospital, Mullica Hill. He was born in Mott, North Dakota and was a graduate of Concordia College in Morehead, Minnesota. After graduation he worked for a few years for Henkles & McCoy in southern California. Archie came to the Paulsboro area while serving in the United States Army, stationed at the Nike Base in Repaupo. He later retired after 31 years of service as a pipefitter with DuPont Chambers Works, Pennsville in 1992. Archie was a faithful member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Paulsboro where he could be found singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, playing his trumpet on Sundays and helping out making thousands of hoagies for their monthly hoagie sales and working oyster suppers. Archie also served on several church committees. While serving with the Army color guard, Archie met several members of the Billingsport Fire Association and joined their ranks on Nov. 21,1961. He has served his community for 65 years in the fire service, moving up through the ranks, first as assistant engineer in 1965, chief engineer in 1966, captain in 1970, battalion chief in 1974 and as borough chief in 1986. For many years he also served as assistant fire marshal. For many years Archie read the Firemen’s Prayer at the annual fire company memorial service. He served as past president of both the Paulsboro Firemen's Relief Association and the Paulsboro Exempt Firemen's Association for 489 years. Archie was also long-time financial secretary and trustee of the Billingsport Volunteer Fire Association. Archie continued his community service representing the Paulsboro Fire Department as a state committeeman, and second vice president, first vice president and president of the New Jersey State Exempt Association. He also is past president of the Gloucester County Fire Chiefs Association and the Delaware Valley Fire Chiefs Association. For several years in his free time he was an umpire for Paulsboro Little League. Archie was among the original members of the Gloucester County Fire Academy and is credited with mentoring hundreds entering the fire service. Each October he would visit schools during Fire Prevention week. He also serves as chaplain of the county chiefs association and the exempt organization. He is survived by his children, Glenn Roemmich of Paulsboro, Lisa Garrett of Paulsboro, Terri Roemmich of New Boston, Texas, Gary and Teresa Roemmich of Hinesville, Georgia; his grandchildren, Jeremy Roemmich, Mellisa Horst, Joey Garrett, Tyler Garrett and Kirsten Roemmich and his great grandchildren, Gauge Roemmich, Zelda Horst, Rowan Garrett and Josie Garrett and his brother, Dale and Sandy Roemmich of Arizona. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 65 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Roemmich, his parents, Jacob and Louise Roemmich; his brother, Larry Roemmich and his sister, Arlyce and her husband James Muck. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday January 31, 2026 in the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 2 East Broad Street, Paulsboro. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Friday evening from 5 to 9 PM in the McBride – Foley Funeral Home, 228 West Broad Street, Paulsboro and Saturday morning in St. Paul’s church after 9:30 AM until service time. Interment Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro.
