Mrs. Joan E. Inman

Joan E. Inman (nee Murphy) age 91 years of West Deptford, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2023 at home surrounded by her family. Joan was born in Old Saybrook, CT to James and Irene Murphy and raised in Glenside, PA. Joan graduated from Chestnut Hill College in 1954 with a B.S. in chemistry. As a student, "Murph" excelled in field hockey and softball. After graduating, she became a chemist at DuPont, where she met the love of her life, Everett “Ed” N. Inman, Jr. They married in 1967. The two raised their children in Gibbstown, where she was elected to the Greenwich Township Board of Education and was a member of St. Michael’s Church. “Joanie” continued her love of sports by coaching field hockey at St. James High School. Later in life, she and Ed relocated to Arden, NC. While there, Joan and Ed enjoyed hiking and going on picnics. Joan was a loyal friend and a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed rooting for her grandchildren at their sporting events. She was a staunch supporter of Notre Dame, the Phillies and the Eagles and would often call her son to discuss the games. She was an avid reader and puzzle enthusiast, but she also loved a cold beer, a good time, and playing pinochle with “the gang.” She was very proud of her Irish heritage and visited Ireland with her husband. Joan is survived by her son Mark (Kathleen), daughter Stacy, and daughter Barbara Dobzanski (Deron). “Noanie” is also survived by her loving grandchildren Dylan and Jordan Dobzanski, Morgan and Ryleigh Wright, and Brett Inman. Joan is predeceased by her husband, parents, in-laws Everett and Althea Inman, and her siblings James, Carolyn Lamey, and Eileen Pitt. She is survived by her sister Barbara Carlin and brother Dan. Joanie and her siblings shared a very special bond, and she loved spending time with "The Murphy Clan" during their frequent get-togethers. A Memorial Service will be held at the McBride – Foley Funeral Home, 228 W. Broad St., Paulsboro on Saturday, December 30, 2023. Relatives and friends may visit with the family from 9:30 – 11:00 AM.
