William Falen

William R. “Bill” Falen age 83 years of Gibbstown died Wednesday December 29, 2010 in his home. Mr. Falen was born in Camden and he graduated from Scotland School, a military school for veterans children in Scotland, PA. He was President of the class of 1945, was most outstanding student and graduated Cadet Major of his class. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served from 1944 to 1947 in Germany. He then attended Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA where he was on the football team. Mr. Falen retired in 1985 as planner – scheduler after 35 years of service with DuPont Repauno Works, Gibbstown. He was one of the founding men of the Gibbstown Midget Football League and he coached for many years. Mr. Falen also coached for both the Little and Big League Baseball Organizations. He was a devoted member since 1967 of Clonmell United Methodist Church, Gibbstown where he served as Finance Committee Chairman, Administrative Board Chairman, Pastor Parish Committee, Delegate to the Methodist Conference, Trustee to Methodist Conference, Church Trustee and Chairman of the Bus Ministry. He looked forward to every Sunday for Sunday School and church service, Now he’s home with the Lord! Mr. Falen was also a member of the Anthony T. Calista V.F.W. Post #5579, Gibbstown and the Gibbstown Senior Citizens Club. He worked as a crossing guard for Greenwich Township School System for eight years. Bill was an avid golfer, traveling with Peg and friends all over the entire country and he was a member of both Salem and DuPont Country Clubs. For the past few years, he enjoyed being taken to breakfast with his former co-workers by his special friend, Bob McIlvaine. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Peg Falen (nee Heil) of Gibbstown; his daughter, Judith and Tim Gatanis of Gibbstown, his son, Scott and Tammy Falen of Elsinboro; his grandchildren, Rebekah Pratta, Deanna Gatanis, Derek and Darcey Falen; his great granddaughter, Jade Pratta – Chisholm; his brother, James and Eve Falen of Louisville, TN and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Clarence Falen and Helen Falen DuBrink and his brother, George Falen. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday January 4, 2011 in Clonmell U.M. Church, 516 W. Broad St., Gibbstown. Friends may call Monday evening from 7 to 9 PM in the McBride - Foley Funeral Home, 228 W. Broad St., Paulsboro and Tuesday morning after 9:30 AM in the Church. January 12, 1927 - December 29, 2010
